Job Description:

The physical therapy assistant is responsible for assisting in the treatment of patients under the direction and supervision of the physical therapists. You will provide and progress patient treatment based on the physical therapists’ evaluation and plan of care. Treatments may include patient education, exercise (including equipment), gait training, mobility and transfer skills, balance and coordination activities, and modalities.

Required Skills:

  • Degree from accredited physical therapy assistant program, state licensure, and CPR certificate
  • Intermediate computer skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good organization, decision-making, and problem solving skills
  • Ability to use sound judgement in applying academic knowledge and clinical experience in providing patient treatment and care
  • Capable of communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Demonstrates strong ability to organize time and set priorities appropriately, demonstrating flexibility
  • Has the ability to establish rapport with patients
  • Able to assume responsibility in carrying out assigned tasks
  • Able to lift and move patients and equipment using sound judgment


  • Assesses patient performance commensurate with their training and qualifications
  • Complete appropriate documentation on all patients treated, including subjective and objective information, progress in therapy, and other information pertinent to patient’s care
  • Plan, prepare and perform individually designed treatment programs to maintain, improve and/or restore physical functioning, alleviate pain and/or prevent physical dysfunction in patients
  • Perform all types of modalities and hydrotherapy treatments
  • Perform all therapeutic exercise techniques including isokinetic and isotonic equipment
  • Identify and document goals, anticipated progress and plans for re-evaluation per policy and procedure
  • Evaluate effectiveness of treatment at various stages and adjust treatment to achieve maximum benefit
  • Provide patients with meaningful rehab experience utilizing excellent clinical skills and customer service
  • Assume responsibility for cleaning up after patient treatment, putting away equipment, and keeping work area neat and orderly
